The Policy Committee is a Committee of the NZPI Council. It will develop, manage and deliver the policy program of the Institute. It will consult with and advise the Council and Branches on significant national policy issues. It will also foster NZPI policy development generally by providing a forum for policy issues to be discussed and developed.

Terms of Reference
In developing and managing the NZPI policy program the
Committee will:
- Prepare a national policy program, for Council endorsement
- Monitor and report on progress of the Policy Program to Council
- Provide a forum to share information and provide feedback and assistance on Branch policy issues
- Consult and liaise with the NZPImembership
- Consult with stakeholders where required and work collaborately with others where appropriate
- Seek to publicise policy positions to NZPImembers, recognised planning stakeholders and the wider planning community through a variety of ways including media, internet, conferences, journals, etc.
- Ensure policy development incorporates leading edge planning ideas that continually challenge planning orthodoxy and advances best practice
- Identify opportunities for alternative funding sources for policy and research development
Membership
The Committee membership will include:
- The Immediate Past President as Chair of the Committee
- The President of NZPI ®
- A representative of the Planning Institute of Australia National Council
- A leading planning academic
- A policy representative nominated by each Branch
The NZPI ® Policy Committee will be advised and assisted by the CEO.
Meetings
The Policy Committee will meet as required but generally, every three months by telephone hook-up. A minimum of four meetings will be held per annum, with one of those meetings to be face to face.
Roles/responsibilities for individual members:
- Input into NZPIPolicy and Policy Committee deliberations
- For Branch representatives: represent Branches and consult with and report back to Branches when required
- Share policy information of relevance to other Branches or of national significance.
