Come along and celebrate World Town Planning Day with Wellington planners!
There will be speakers from Wellington City Council on Medium Density residential development proposed for Karori and Tawa and associated work on the respective town centres of these areas and the Wellington City Council Housing Upgrade programme.
There will also be a brief presentation of the Ling Phang and Distinguished Service Awards.
We look forward to seeing you there- drinks and nibbles provided (until the bar tab runs out..)

The international organization for World Town Planning Day was founded in 1949 to advance public and professional interest in planning. It is promoted each year by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISoCaRP), and is celebrated in over 30 countries, on four continents worldwide.

ABOUT: 2015 DSA - DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The New Zealand Planning Institute Distinguished Service Award shall be made from time to time, but not more often than annually, to any member(s) and shall recognise: -

  • A significant contribution over many years to the image and practice of planning; or
  • Original research which has advanced the theory and practice of planning in New Zealand and overseas;
  • A major contribution in the field of planning and to the affairs of the Institute; or
  • National or international recognition as a leader in the planning profession.

ABOUT: GEOK LING PHANG MEMORIAL AWARD

The award will be given to a person or organisation for a significant contribution made by a project or publication in the Wellington Region which:

  • Draws attention to the aims, objectives, and progress of planning.
  • Highlights the valuable contributions sound planning has made to the quality of where we live, work and play.
  • Gives coverage to the ideals of planning not only within the profession but also among the general public.
  • Celebrates our accomplishments in making those collective decisions concerning our cities and regions that bring quality and meaning to our lives, addressing both current needs and those of the future.

It could relate to any of the following:

  • The undertaking and completion of a project involving a physical work or development
  • Integrated planning investigations and/or reporting
  • Policy formulation
  • Preparation or review of any policy statement or plan under the Resource Management Act
  • Planning-related consultation and public involvement
  • Planning-related report preparation
  • Professional evidence
  • Community information about planning and assessment of effects report
  • Monitoring of effects and reporting
  • Planning processes and systems.
