The Honourable, Dr Nick Smith yesterday gave an exclusive interview to One News. In that interview he indicated that he was considering creating ‘competition’ for the issuing of resource consents as one remedy to the lack of affordable housing. Dr Smith suggested that enabling other organisations, including central government, to issue resource consents could result in the cutting of ‘red’ tape costs and therefore the costs of housing.
