After consulting with members about the proposed National Policy Statement on Urban Development Capacity, the NZPI has prepared a detailed and well-researched submission. This quotes member comments collected in a survey and is driven by member responses that are reported in an appendix. Submission themes suggest the proposed NPS needs improvement and refinement to deliver:

  • better central government guidance and support
  • improved cooperation between central government and local government particularly with the housing market assessment tool
  • better indicators and the measurement of liveability
  • national guidance for avoiding conflict with other NPS in particular for freshwater and the coastal policy statement
  • a more integrated NPS for Urban Development (not just capacity)
