This year’s recipient Courtney Bennett is an exemplary planning professional. Within less than five years since graduating, she has been instrumental in the development of several innovative plans that are informed by indigenous cultural narratives.
As an Environmental Advisor at Te Rūnanga o Ngai Tahu, Courtney has made significant contributions to the Paparoa National Park Management Plan, Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour Plan, and Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park Management Plan.
She has contributed fresh knowledge to the field of iwi/Māori planning, and is gaining a reputation as a future leader in this area of planning. Equally impressive is Courtney’s willingness to share her planning knowledge with her community, her city and her profession.
Outside of work, Courtney has led the development of the first strategic plan for Te Tahawai Marae in Pakuranga, as well as contributing to several regeneration projects and processes in Christchurch, all while being an active member of the NZPI.
