Technology is changing our world faster than ever before. This course is designed to give the experienced planner an understanding of these emerging technologies, and to incorporate this awareness into practice. New technologies are leading to changes in the activities and resources we manage and offer new opportunities for protecting the natural environment and managing effects.
This course gives an understanding of how the world is changing in what is termed the fourth industrial revolution. Key technology trends such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data, digital trade, drones and Internet of Things are explained. The course also delves into some of the deeper attitudes or principles behind these changes such as open data, transparency, security and privacy.
The participants will then look at some case
studies of these technologies in practice in planning or related professions. Group
exercises will allow the participants to reflect on how these new technologies
will drive change in their own areas of planning practice.
