Come and join the Wellington Branch for a Social Event with some discussion about the NZPI constitutional review.

This event will be at Lulu bar in Courtenay Place. Nibbles will be provided and your first drink from the bar will be free.

David Curtis, CEO of NZPI will be at the event to discuss the review, gather feedback from members and answer questions members may have.

The NZPI Board announced at the AGM that they are undertaking a review of the NZPI Constitution as a key part of their work plan for this term. This is primarily to address three main matters:

  • Maori representation on the NZPI Board: we have had a co-opted Maori representative on the Board for the last 2 years. The review includes the proposed changes to formalise this co-opted position as a full member of the Board.

  • Compliance with the new Incorporated Societies Act: NZPI is an incorporated society and as such we operate under specific legislation – the Incorporated Societies Act from 1908. This Act is currently being reviewed and we, along with most incorporated societies, are trying to be pro-active in ensuring our Constitution is compliant with the proposed changes to the Act.

  • Administrative tidy up: The Constitution is reasonably complex and contains information that should be held separately. The complexity has resulting in drafting errors i.e. we have a definition that points to a non-existent clause. The unnecessary level of information includes things like the Institute’s strategic plan being embedded in the Constitution rather than sitting as a separate document required by the Constitution.

The NZPI has developed a guide to assist members to engage with and understand the review. This guide sets out in more detail the reasons for the review along with the changes proposed in the review:
