Auckland Council’s Regulatory Department works collaboratively with Kāinga Ora to deliver quality social housing at scale and pace. Across the 2018/19 financial year, the council worked alongside (then) Housing New Zealand to process 360 resource consents and enable it to complete the construction of 1,461 new homes – a staggering feat given complex and time consuming resource consenting process created by the RMA and the Auckland Unitary Plan.

How did it do this? By leading and championing new initiatives and creating a new way of working.

Auckland Council has created a new way of doing things to enable positive change to processes and deliver quality outcomes within tight timeframes. By cultivating an ongoing relationship with Kāinga Ora, Auckland Council has challenged standard processes to deliver much needed social housing and create a new approach to collaborative working relationships.

Sam Gibbs has been at the leading edge of these changes. Join her as she shares her experience.
