This course provides planners with an understanding of land development planning from a strategic to an on the ground level, and covers:

  • Legislative and NPSUD drivers for planning for growth
  • What else do you need to think about when planning for growth (so, infrastructure, funding, parks, social infrastructure, “qualifying matters”)
    - The economics of land development from a developers' perspective
  • Tools and techniques – structure plans, master plans, development areas, future urban zonings
    - What do these involve?
    - RPS and District Plan provisions
  • Understanding land tenure and subdivision
    - What is it, the process and different types of Subdivision
  • Dealing with Māori land

    Policy planners will gain a better knowledge of the nuts and bolts of land development, helping to develop better planning frameworks, as well as how a RPS or District Plan fits within a wider framework. Consent planners will gain a better understanding of the strategic side of land development and growth and how they contribute to getting better outcomes.

    Included will be case studies from around New Zealand.

    Presented by Gina Sweetman
    Gina is an experienced planner with a wide range of experience, having worked for over 28 years in local and central government and currently private practice. She has a strong knowledge of all aspects of the RMA, with particular strengths in policy review and development, training, planning for Māori values, statutory planning and implementing best RMA practice into everyday practice.

    Gina is also an experienced accredited Hearings Commissioner (Chairs endorsement), Government appointed Freshwater Commissioner and Development Contributions Commissioner and NZPI Distinguished Service Award recipient.
