DRAFT NZPI's Submission on the RMII Discussion Document

Dear NZPI Members,

As you will no doubt be aware, MfE has recently released the discussion document Building Competitive Cities: Reform of the Urban and Infrastructure Planning System. The document focuses on the problems identified with the current RMA system for urban planning and infrastructure development and sets out a range of possible options for consideration by the community.  This review is part of Central Government’s ongoing Resource Management Phase II reforms, with this document specifically addressing RMII U (Urban Planning) and RMII I (Infrastructure).

NZPI is intent on drafting a submission to the discussion document which reflects the views of its membership.  Towards that end, NZPI is seeking your feedback on the MfE discussion document no later than close of business Monday 8 November 2010.

Our sincere apologies for the tight deadline but the final document needs to be endorsed by both the membership and the NZPI Council before lodgement with MfE by the final date for submissions (17 December).  Please see attached NZPI process and timeline for submissions.

Below a generic submission form which you may choose to use in your response but please feel equally empowered to send a less structured response if you would prefer:

Your thoughts on the proposed reforms will be most welcome and can be directed to our new Policy and Research Advisor, Christina Kaiser ( christina.kaiser@planning.org.nz).

Warmest regards
