Comments sought on Christchurch's Draft Central City Plan

Dear NZPI Members,

As you will be aware Christchurch City Council (CCC) is focussed on the development of a plan that will underpin the regeneration of Christchurchs devastated Central Business District. CCC has recently released a Draft Central City Plan and is seeking comment on the draft prior to 16 September 2011.

NZPI is very keen to continue its support of the Garden City by making formal comment on the plan. It is proposed that NZPIs comment be informed by:

  • The Pathways to New Beginnings document; a road map document which was developed by NZPI and the Canterbury/Westland Branch for local, regional and central government leadership.
  • Your specific views on the draft central city plan

The Process

As you will see from the linked draft Central City Plan above the plan is a weighty document that has two elements:

  • Volume 1 which outlines how Christchurchs Central City will be redeveloped and rebuilt following the February earthquake, and
  • Volume 2 which outlines proposed changes to the Christchurch City Council City Plan 2005 and Global Stormwater Consent.

In a bid to make the process as painless as possible for you NZPI has developed a comment matrix in which you can choose to input your responses. Please feel encouraged to use the matrix and return all comments to Christina.kaiser@planning.org.nz no later than close of business 31 August 2011.
