DBH Statement of Intent

The Department of Building and Housings Statement of Intent for 2012-15 was published this week, and I'm pleased to be sending you a link to the summary version www.dbh.govt.nz/statement-of-intent.

On 24 April 2012 following a due diligence process, the Government confirmed the establishment of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The new Ministry will come into effect on 1 July 2012.

This Statement of Intent 2012-15 for the Department of Building and Housing was mostly prepared before the decision to create the new Ministry was taken. It should be read in that light. Future Statements of Intent will be a single document for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as a whole and will take account of the results of the integration process.

While we move forward with the transition, our focus will remain on our large programme of work currently underway.

Our top priorities for the coming year are:

  • support recovery in Canterbury
  • social housing reform
  • grow the supply of social/affordable housing
  • implement the Building Act reforms
  • continue to work with the building and construction sector to lift productivity
  • administer the Weathertight Homes Financial Assistance Package
  • deliver better, smarter public services for less

We will also continue our focus on delivering greater value for money and doing more with less.

Id like to take the opportunity to thank all our stakeholders for your continued support, particularly the many offers of help we received following the Canterbury earthquakes, as well as for the vital contribution you make to our work on a continuing basis. Our priority work will continue to be driven from the new Ministry.

Wed welcome your suggestions or feedback. If youd like to contact us, please email Katrina.Bach@dbh.govt.nz

Thank you
