Would you like to share your experience and expertise with NZPI members? There are opportunities to network, tutor, and be remunerated as part of our CPD team in 2019. We have some gaps we’d like to fill:
Please email Joel Cayford with a short description of the particular planning experience and expertise that you would be prepared to share as part of a CPD course, and suggestions you have about how that might be developed into a CPD course that can be delivered to our members.
This is a one-day course – given once or twice a year. We have an opportunity for a senior planner to cover the middle of NZ – including Wellington, Hawkes Bay, and Taranaki. Senior planner Dave Serjeant currently covers the Upper North Island and Senior planner John Kyle covers the South Island. You would be presenting the course along with a lawyer and an environment court judge. We are looking for someone who is active in presenting evidence to the Court so as to ensure the planning tutor is up to date with Court practices and the requirements of evidence. This is a popular and important course. NZPI members who have helped before get a lot out of presenting it: knowing they imparted core skills that attendees need in order to successfully undertake an important aspect of their job and career.
Earthquakes, liquefaction, coastal inundation, extreme weather patterns and their effects, are among natural hazards that must be considered as part of RMA planning processes. Central Government guidance materials, new caselaw, and new best practices are emerging, and NZPI is keen to work with experts prepared to share and spread their knowledge within the planning profession. Please tell us your ideas for a course – which might cover one or more of these issues – and let us know how you might like to be involved.
We are aware of a number of other emerging planning issues where there are best practice CPD course opportunities and training needs. Possible CPD planning courses include: Archaeology; Heritage; Biodiversity; Landscape; Current Environmental Issues; Integrated Transport and Land Use Planning.
