This workshop is focused on building an understanding of:
This workshop draws on the material in the Maori Values and
World Views Supplement to the Making Good Decisions Programme
and is designed for all types of practitioners under the RMA
including planners at all levels (both public and private
sector), decision-makers and those involved in advising
councils. It will also be relevant for applicants and
submitters.
The day will involve presentations, discussions and
exercises aimed at improving knowledge of Maori
values and world views and how to incorporate these
into resource management decision-making and practice.
This will be supported by the knowledge of tikanga Maori from a
local iwi representative/Maori commissioner experienced in
resource management. At the end of the day participants should
have developed a good understanding of why is it important to
take into account Maori values and world views under the RMA
and practical methods to integrate these into resource
management practice and decision making.
Presenters:
Tama Hovell and
Vicki Morrison are two of the primary authors
of the Maori Values and Worldviews Supplement. Tama and Vicki
are both senior associates at the specialist environmental and
public law firm, Atkins Holm Joseph Majurey Ltd.
Tama specialises in environmental, Maori and resource
management law and has acted for a range of clients, including
corporates, local government, iwi and other Maori
organisations. Tama is of Ngai Te Rangi, Ngati Porou,
Ngati Tamatera and Nga Puhi descent.
Vicki specialises in local government and environmental law.
Previous roles have included in-house counsel, development
manager, in-house counsel/ iwi consultation officer and
solicitor in the environmental team at DLA Phillips Fox.
Vicki is of Ngapuhi descent.
Local iwi representative/Maori commissioner experienced in
resource management.
Who should attend
This CPD course is aimed at both RMA practitioners and
certified MGD decision makers who are interested gaining a
better understanding of Maori values and world views and how to
incorporate these into resource management practice and
decision making. It will apply to:
NB: The material in this CPD course has been
incorporated into the MGD foundation course but will not be
covered at the same level of detail. This material will also
not be covered in any MGD re-certification courses. If you have
